A two-chair studio

Hair cut to the way you actually wear it

Bright Paper is a small studio for precision cutting, considered colour and repair work. Every appointment starts with a conversation about your hair at home — not at the basin.

  • Opening shape

Tuesday to Saturday, with late chairs on Thursday until 8pm.

  • Consultations

Fifteen minutes, no charge, booked on their own if you prefer.

  • Before colour

A patch test is needed 48 hours ahead of any tint or bleach.

Choose your appointment

Three ways in, so you book the right slot

Most mis-booked appointments are simply too short. Read the lane that matches what you want to change, then name it on the form.

Work from the chair

Three recent appointments, photographed in the studio on the day. Bring images like these to your consultation — they are far more useful than a description.

Stylist cutting a blunt, collarbone-length shape at the studio chair
Cut & finish

A blunt collarbone line kept heavy through the ends, dried soft rather than straight.

Close view of freshly coloured hair being sectioned and combed through
Colour

Two sittings of fine foils around the parting, toned warm so the grow-out stays quiet.

Hands finishing short hair with clippers and comb beside the salon mirror
Short shapes

A tapered back scissor-dressed over the ear, booked as a 60 minute cut and finish.

Behind the chairs

Two stylists, named on your booking

You can ask for either of us, or leave it open and we will give you the first suitable chair. Request times are a guide, not a promise.

Mara Hollis

Cutting & curl

Mara opened Bright Paper after years of dry cutting and works mostly with texture — waves, coils and anyone who has been told their hair "will not do that". She usually books about two weeks ahead.

Theo Okonjo

Colour & repair

Theo plans colour around the diary you actually keep, so a four-month grow-out is a fair answer. Correction work is his, and he will always consult before quoting. Lightening days fill first.

Small things that help

  • Come with your hair as you normally wear it. Second-day hair tells us more than a fresh wash.
  • Save two or three reference images, including one you do not like — it sharpens the brief quickly.
  • Tell us about any box dye, henna or home lightening, even years ago. It changes what colour can do safely.
  • Colour bookings need a patch test 48 hours before, which takes about five minutes.
  • If plans change, let us know at least 24 hours ahead and we will move you to the next free chair.

Questions

Asked at the front desk

The six things people most often want cleared up before they book.

Why does colour need a patch test?

Tint and bleach contain ingredients that a small number of people react to, and sensitivity can appear even if you have coloured your hair for years. The test takes five minutes, must sit for 48 hours, and only needs repeating if more than six months pass between colour appointments.

Can you fix grown-out or banded box colour?

Usually, but not always in one sitting. Removing built-up dye without wrecking the condition is a staged process, so we consult first, agree a realistic endpoint, and often split the work across two or three visits with repair treatments in between.

How long should I leave between appointments?

A precision cut holds its shape for six to eight weeks, shorter crops closer to four. Root tint is typically four to six weeks, while hand-painted balayage can stretch to three or four months — we plan that with you rather than assuming you want to come back constantly.

Do you cut children's hair?

Yes, from around age six, booked as a 30 minute appointment with a parent or carer staying in the studio. We keep the clippers quiet and will happily stop halfway if a first haircut needs a break.

Is a fringe trim really free?

Within six weeks of a cut with us, yes — just ask for a fringe slot when you book. Outside that window, or if you were cut elsewhere, it is charged as a short appointment.

What happens if I am running late?

Tell us as soon as you know. Up to about ten minutes we can usually absorb; beyond that we may shorten the finish or, for colour, move you to another day so the next client is not pushed back. We would rather rebook you than rush your hair.

Tell us what you want to change

Send the form and we will reply with two or three times that fit the service, including the patch test appointment if colour is involved. Nothing is confirmed until you hear back from us.

We reply during studio hours, usually the same working day.
